COLLEGE PARK, MD — Maryland heads to the Prairie State for its first conference road matches of the season this week. The Terps play at Northwestern on Thursday, before closing out the week on Sunday at Illinois.
The game against Northwestern is scheduled for Thursday Sept. 26 at 8:00 p.m. ET on B1G+. The match against Illinois is slated for a 3:00 p.m. ET kickoff and will also be broadcast on Big Ten Network.
All three teams are winless in the Big Ten after the first two weekends of conference action. The Fighting Illini has one point in the standings thanks to a 2-2 tie on the road at Wisconsin on Sept. 19.
Series Histories
- Maryland never met Northwestern prior to the Terps joining the Big Ten in 2014 and trail in the all-time series with the Wildcats 1-4-2. The two teams haven’t met since the fall of 2021 when they played to a 1-1 double-OT tie in College Park. The Terps’ lone win in the series came in 2018 with a 2-1 win at Ludwig Field on Oct. 7.
- The Illini lead the Terps, 4-3-1, in their all-time series, which dates back to 2014. The squads last met in 2022 with Illinois coming from behind to take a 3-2 victory in College Park on Sept. 22. The last time in Champaign, the Illini also took a one-goal decision, besting the Terps 2-1 on Oct. 3, 2021.
Maryland had not met either Illinois or Northwestern until the Terps joined the Big Ten in 2014. Maryland and Northwestern last met in 2021, playing to a 1-1 double-OT draw in College Park. Maryland and Illinois last met in 2022, with the Illini taking a 3-2 win.
Ringing the Bell Twice
- Kennedy Bell’s two-goal performance in the Terps’ 4-0 win over VCU on Sept. 8 was the first time a Terp scored twice in a game since Lisa McIntyre scored twice against James Madison on Aug. 27, 2023.
- Bell opened the scoring in the 5th minute, finishing a scramble inside the 8-meters. She added her second of the day less than two minutes later on a breakaway off of a beautifully paced through ball from Peyton Bernard.
