Men’s Soccer Takes on URI Prior to Conference Opener


ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany men’s soccer program (2-5-1, 0-0-0 America East) sets course to take on the University of Rhode Island (4-1-2, 0-1-0 A10) before opening conference play on the road at UMass Lowell (5-1-2, 0-0-0 America East)
 

 

 
Last Time Out:
UAlbany enters the week following a 2-1 loss against Lafayette on Tuesday, September 17. In the match, the Great Danes’ lone goal was scored by Timo Jansen off an assist from Ander Castillo.
 
As the Purple and Gold prepare for what’s ahead, Jansen is currently the team’s leader in points with eight from three goals and one assist with 13 shots, eight shots on goal, 0.615 shots on goal percentage, and 0.231 shooting percentage. Behind Jansen in points is Castillo whose three goals and one assist give him seven points from a team-high 26 shots, 13 shots on goal, and a 0.500 shots on goal percentage. Of field players, Ethan Cook has spent the most time on the pitch with 675 total minutes followed by Christos Efstathiou with 670 minutes.
 
In the net Daniel Shannon (2-2-0) and Parker Kump (0-3-1) have split time with Shannon leading the total on-field time with 398:51 in which he has recorded a 0.760 save percentage and 1.35 goals against average from six goals allowed and 19 saves. Kump meanwhile has allowed seven goals with 10 saves for a 1.96 goals against average and 0.588 save percentage.
 
Looking at Rhode Island:
Rhode Island is coming off a week that saw the Rams go 0-1-1 with a 1-1 tie against Central Connecticut State on Sept. 14 followed by a 2-0 loss to VCA on Sept. 20. To this point in the season, URI has scored seven goals, allowing four while tallying 72 shots and 10.3 shots per game.
 
Patrick Gryczewski leads the Rams with five points, two goals, and one assist from nine shots, four on goal while Brandon Bermingham and Joan Sanchis both have tallied four points from two goals. Bermingham currently leads the team with 18 shots, seven on goal.
 
Of field players, Nikos Clarke-Tosczak has spent a total time of 630 minutes on the pitch, the most of any other Ram, while recording one assist and two shots.
 
In goal, Edu Rodriguez (3-1-1) has started in five of the team’s seven matches and has allowed three goals while making 26 saves in 450 minutes of play for a 0.60 goals against average and 0.897 save percentage,
