COLUMBIA, SC – South Carolina women’s soccer (3-0-4, 0-0-0) begins SEC play on the road, taking on Georgia (4-2-2, 0-0-0) on Thursday, Sept. 19. The match against the Bulldogs will be on ESPNU at 6 p.m. EST.
LAST TIME OUT
The Gamecocks earned their third win of the season on the road at Georgia State 6-0 on Sunday. Fifth-year Cat Barry led the way with a hat trick, her first coming from a penalty kick and second from a header. Fellow fifth-year Brianna Behm added two goals and an assist of her own. Freshman Katie Shea Collins scored her fourth goal of the season.
Barry’s three goals bring her to 41 career goals, moving her to No. 2 in the South Carolina record book. Her hat trick was the program’s eighth in history.
Barry and Collins were both named SEC Players of the Week, with Barry taking Co-Offensive and Collins earning Freshman.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Georgia heads into the match having played three ranked opponents so far. They opened the season with a 0-0 tie against No. 7 Pitt and went on to lose 3-4 to No. 5 North Carolina and tie 1-1 against No. 1 Florida State. Graduate forward Margie Detrizio leads the team with six goals and one assist through eight games.
The Bulldogs are on a three-game win streak, last defeating Washington State 4-1 at home. Graduate midfielder Dasia Torbert scored two goals against the Cougars, her first of the season.
Georgia leads the all-time series against the Gamecocks 16-13-6. The last time the Bulldogs took on the Gamecocks was on Oct. 22, 2023, in Stone Stadium. South Carolina scored a pair of goals in each half to win 4-0.
Georgia is led by head coach Keidane McAlpine, whose sister, Kanika McAlpine, played for the Gamecocks from 1999-2002.
