Women’s Soccer Moves to No. 3 Nationally


DURHAM, N.C. – Riding a five-match winning streak, the Duke women’s soccer team moved to tied for third overall in the United Soccer Coaches national rankings, which was released Tuesday afternoon. 
 
The Blue Devils earned a top-5 ranking for the fifth straight season and an impressive 10th time under Duke head coach Robbie Church
 
One of the hottest teams in the nation, Duke has won five consecutive matches and posted clean sheets in all of those contests.  The Blue Devils have outscored opponents 20-0 during that stretch and allowed only 22 shots.  Duke is coming off scoring 20 goals the last two contests and ranks sixth nationally in points per game (10.3). 
 
As a team, the Blue Devils feature 12 different student-athletes that have scored this season with Maggie Graham and Mia Minestrella leading the way with three each.  Duke’s defense continues to shine under the direction of Leah Freeman in goal along with Nicky Chico, Katie Groff and Cameron Roller
 
The ACC holds three out of the top four slots with Stanford at the top, followed by Florida State at No. 2 and Arkansas is tied with the Blue Devils at No. 3.  Michigan State, Auburn, Utah State, North Carolina, Penn State and Santa Clara round out the top 10.  Other ACC teams listed in the poll include Wake Forest (13), Virginia (14) and Notre Dame (16).
 
Up next for Duke will be its ACC opener on Thursday, Sept. 19 at Clemson, which will be aired live on ACC Network at 7 p.m.
