CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina graduate forward Martin Vician was named Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Virginia Tech senior goalkeeper Cooper Wenzel claimed ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors, it was announced Tuesday.
A native of Blatislava, Slovakia, Vician scored the game-winning goal in No. 11 North Carolina’s 2-1, come-from-behind road win over Duke on Friday. Vician’s unassisted strike to the bottom left corner of the goal came in the 78th minute and helped UNC to remain unbeaten on the season at 4-0-2.
Wenzel made four saves in the No. 17 Hokies’ 2-0 triumph at Syracuse on Friday. The Fresno, California, native led the Hokies to their fourth clean sheet of the season in just their sixth match. It already marks Virginia Tech’s most shutouts in a season since the 2021 campaign, as the Hokies are off to a 5-0-1 start this season.
ACC Network features a non-conference men’s soccer match on Tuesday, September 20, as Wake Forest plays host to No. 20 Elon at 6 p.m. Week 3 of league play consists of seven matches scheduled from Friday through Sunday, September 20-22. ACC Network will broadcast the Wake Forest at No. 5 Clemson match at 7:30 p.m. ET on Friday. No. 3 Stanford plays its first home ACC match on Sunday, as the Cardinal entertains Duke at 9:30 p.m. ET.
