Real Madrid begin the defence of their Champions League crown on Tuesday night against Stuttgart, no doubt hoping to get off to a flyer at the Santiago Bernabeu.
With the new format now in place, even a draw or loss isn’t fatal to a team’s chances of progressing to the next stage, though such thoughts clearly won’t be on Los Blancos minds when they take to the field.

The Brazilian can feel slightly aggrieved that he’s not been allowed to make more of an impact since arriving in the Spanish capital, however, he does have some major contemporaries ahead of him in the pecking order.
Certainly, Carlo Ancelotti would be a brave man to drop the likes of Vini Jr., Kylian Mbappe or Rodrygo in order to accommodate the 18-year-old.
Any disappointment he may feel in a professional sense is likely to be more than made up for by a recent personal decision that he’s made.
According to AS, Endrick tied the knot with Gabriely Miranda on Monday, surely disappointing a number of potential female suitors in the process.
Footballers in general aren’t renowned for settling down quickly, let alone at just 18 years of age, however, the decision shows a great deal of maturity for a youngster who has only ever hit the headlines for the prowess he’s shown on the field of play.
It’s understood that his new wife is a popular model in her own right, so the union between the pair is bound to get tongues wagging, and column inches filled.
Such a decision could well have a beneficial impact on Endrick’s state of mind, and how that will affect his standing in the group will only be seen in due course.
