BOSTON, Mass. – UAlbany men’s soccer’s forward Ander Castillo was named the America East offensive player of the week, on Monday, September 16.
A senior on the team, this is Castillo’s first conference honor of the 2024 season.
Castillo helped the Great Danes go 1-0-1 over the week with a win on the road at Marist on Monday, September 9, along with a tie against Cornell on Saturday, September 14.
In the Great Danes’ 2-0 victory against the Red Foxes, Castillo recorded UAlbany’s second goal of the match, coming off a throw-in from Christos Efstathiou leading to a header that found the back of the net. He finished the match with two shots and one shot on goal in 36 minutes of play.
In UAlbany’s 2-2 tie against Cornell who is receiving votes in the national coach’s poll, Castillo came off and recorded both goals for the Purple and Gold in 61 minutes of play finishing the match with eight shots, three on-goal for a 0.250 shooting percentage and 0.375 shots on goal percentage.
In total, he recorded six points, three goals, and 10 shots with four shots on goal.
UAlbany will continue the competition on Tuesday, September 17 at Lafayette in Easton, Penn. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
