Barcelona are preparing to offer teenage prodigy Lamine Yamal a new contract in order to tie down the youngster for the long-term.
17-year-old Yamal was catapulted to the top of the footballing world after becoming the youngest ever player to score in a European Championship tournament this summer, playing a starring role and eventually going on to lift the trophy with Spain.
His success on the international stage has continued at club level, having made his Barcelona breakthrough last season, with the winger scoring three goals in five La Liga appearances in 2024/25.
He admitted recently that he hopes to ‘never’ leave Barcelona and instead wants to become a legend at the club – and the Catalan giants may have found a way to make his dreams come true.
According to reports from Marca, Barca plan to offer Yamal a new contract when he turns 18 in July. That new deal will see him remain at Camp Nou until 2030 – until he’s 23.
The report also reveals that Barca will look to offer Pau Cubarsi, Fermin Lopez or Gavi a similar deal in order to symbolise a generation of young talent that La Masia prospects can look up to.
Yamal is expected to be a vital part of Barca’s trophy ambitions in both La Liga and the Champions League this season, playing alongside the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Dani Olmo and Raphinha.
He’s made an excellent start to the 2024/25 campaign, scoring twice in Barca’s 4-1 victory over Girona on Sunday. His current contract sees his future secured until 2026, but he could be on the books for another four years beyond that if a new deal is offered.
