BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech continued the ACC slate with a 1-0 win against Syracuse on Sunday afternoon at Thompson Field.

Allie George shined once again for the Hokies as she scored late in the first half to make it a 1-0 game. She now leads the team with three goals, all of which have been scored at home.

With the win, the Hokies are 2-0 to begin ACC play for the first time since 2009.

How it Happened
It was a steady back-and-forth game in the first half with both teams producing significant shots on goal. It was not until the last five minutes of the first half that Virginia Tech opened the scoring.

In the 41st minute, the Hokies secured a corner kick and capitalized on the opportunity to put them ahead of Syracuse with a goal scored by Allie George. After a few failed clearances from Syracuse, the ball fell to Allie George just outside the six-yard box and she drilled it into the back of the net with a right footed strike.

With the 1-0 lead, the Hokie defense was stellar throughout the final 45 – holding Syracuse to just four shots. Tech continued to create chances but was unable to add to its lead throughout the rest of the match.

Lauren Hargrove recorded a season-best seven saves in the contest.
