Florida and FGCU Tie 0-0 Sunday

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida and Florida Gulf Coast soccer played to a 0-0 tie Sunday afternoon at Pickering Field at the FGCU Soccer Complex.

Florida outshot the Eagles 16-4, but couldn’t find the scoring touch Sunday.

“Thought this was a good effort by our group. I think not until maybe the last six, seven minutes did I ever feel like they were dangerous. I thought our backline and defensive commitment as a team was really good to limit a team that has some weapons to four shots on the day,” Florida Head Coach Samantha Bohon said.

“We’re creating really good chances. It’s just that little final piece of putting it in the back of the net. I’d be a little bit more worried if we weren’t creating chances, but we are. It’s just that little final piece. We’re grinding away at practice trying to get that last little piece, because once that comes into play. I think a lot of success is coming our way.

“We’re containing people defensively, and we just have to put the ball back in the net. But overall, obviously really disappointed, because this is a game we felt like we deserved and could have gotten a result from,” Bohon continued. “But there’s a lot of positives to take away that we’re going to go with, leading into a really important opening SEC weekend.”

Sunday’s match closed non-conference play for both teams. Both teams start league play on Thursday, with Florida opening at No. 21 Kentucky and the Eagles welcome North Florida.
