Pundit doesn’t understand why Chelsea fans aren’t more enraged

Club in "a very bad position" after Boehly decision

The ownership of Chelsea are embroiled in a civil war and it is proof the club is in turmoil.

That is the view of former Liverpool and Aston Villa striker Stan Collymore, who doesn’t understand why fans aren’t more frustrated by how their club is being run.

The Todd Boehly / Clearlake regime took over from Roman Abramovic in May 2022 following Russia’s decision to invade the Ukraine.

The US billionaire has failed to live up to expectations though.

Despite spending huge sums across three different transfer windows, and already being on his fourth manager, Boehly has yet to see any performance-related returns on his investments.

Todd Boehly has yet to win Chelsea fans over.

The Blues look as far off the pace now as what they did when the 50-year-old took over two-and-a-half years ago. There are also reports the two sections of Chelsea’s ownership want to buy the other out, and Collymore has questioned the club’s direction.

“What a farce!” he said in an exclusive interview.

“Two parts of the ownership structure want to buy the other out after dropping a billion on, to date, subpar players.

“Why would Chelsea fans want either of the parties involved in their club?”

He added: “Surely Chelsea have reached the point now where they could find a dozen fit and proper owners who would run the ship properly? — There has been no forward-thinking, no growth and very little performance progression under the Todd Boehly / Clearlake regime.”

Since Boehly’s takeover, the Blues have finished 12th and sixth in the Premier League table. This season sees them playing Europa Conference League football — a clear step up from the season before, but still no where near the level the Londoners should be competing at.
