Men’s Soccer Drops Heartbreaker to Indiana

Yale

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers men’s soccer (3-4) dropped a heartbreaking 1-0 decision to Indiana (2-2-2) on Friday night in the first Big Ten contest of the season. 

Both teams battled for chances on offense but went into halftime tied, 0-0. Out of the break, the teams stayed even until the 87th minute, when Indiana scored the game-winner.

Game Notes  

  • Freshmen Scott Godden earned his seventh consecutive start for the Scarlet Knights, the only rookie to do so. Arnar Adalsteinsson (5) and Illia Tyrkus (1) were also part of the starting 11 for RU.  
  • Other rookies in Matty Lynch and Kristófer Arnarsson also got on the pitch.  
  • Despite the lone goal from the Hoosiers, goalkeeper Ciaran Dalton was exception in the net. He made four saves while holding down the defense.

Looking Ahead   

Rutgers will round out the nonconference schedule on the road at Yale on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 6 p.m. The contest will take place at Reese Stadium.
