MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women’s soccer team opened up Big Ten Conference play with a 1-0 loss against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights tonight, Sept. 12.
How it Happened
First Half
UW started the game with an offensive momentum in Scarlet Knights territory.
Midway through, the Badgers kept their stride drawing back-to-back corner kicks and shots.
With no goals scored in the first, Wisconsin had the lead in shots (6-2) and corners (4-3).
Second Half
Rutgers came out of halftime with a different strategy and formation, earning a corner kick in the 46th minute.
In contrast to the first 45 minutes, possession was shared equally halfway through the second.
With the game getting gritty, Rutgers put one in the back of the net in the 79th minute.
Despite not scoring a goal, UW had the edge in shots (9-7), shots-on-goal (4-3), and corners (6-5).
