Panthers Open ACC Play Saturday Night Against Louisville


PITTSBURGH – The Pitt women’s soccer team is set to host the Louisville Cardinals at the ACC Home Opener, Saturday night at Ambrose Urbanic Field. This ACC matchup is slated for a 7 p.m. kickoff and will air live on the ACC Network Extra.

THE SERIES

  • Saturday night’s matchup will be the 12th overall meeting between the Panthers and the Cardinals with Louisville holding the 8-3 edge.
  • At the last matchup against Louisville, the Panthers dropped the ACC challenge, 3-2, on the road.
  • Pitt is looking to open their ACC campaign with a home win Saturday night.

SCOUTING THE CARDINALS

  • Louisville lost their first match of the season Sunday night against Dayton.
  • Dayton posted the first points of the night in just the fourth minute and the Cardinals were unable to produce an equalizer.
  • This was the first time the Cardinals have allowed a shot on goal in the first half of any game this season.
  • Louisville put up a few threatening shots but couldn’t find a scoring opportunity.
  • Louisville trailed 1-0 despite having the 10-7 advantage I shots.

RECAPPING SUNDAY’S SHUTOUT

  • Pitt honored their seven seniors – celebrating Ellie Coffield, Mackenzie Evers, Keera Melenhorst, Ashley Moon, Grace Pettet, Samiah Phiri, and Sarah Schupansky.
  • The Panthers started collecting points as senior Schupanksy notched in the first goal of the afternoon with 51 seconds on the clock. Coffield earned the assist after sending the ball up the left side of the field to find Schupansky.
  • Pitt doubled their lead at the 12th minute mark after Schupansky launched the ball down the field to find Magali Gagne at the top of the box who completed the goal.
  • Just a few minutes later, Pettet secured her first goal as a Panther as she headed in the ball from a corner kick serviced by Schupanksy. 
  • After a clean pass from Samiah Phiri, Gagne crossed the ball to find the back of the net – producing her second goal of the day.
