Quick Kicks: Wisconsin hosts Rutgers in Big Ten opener


MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women’s soccer team will host the Rutgers Scarlet Knights for its first Big Ten match of the season on Thursday, Sept.12th at 7:00 p.m.

Here are five things to know:

1. SCOUTING THE SCARLET KNIGHTS: Rutgers currently has a 4-1-1 season record and is tied for 6th in the Big Ten.

The Scarlet Knights average 1.67 goals per game, with Allie Post leading the team in goals (3).

Riley Tiernan is atop the leaderboard in points (9), which is ninth in the B1G.

The team is coming off a 2-0 win against NC State on Sept. 8.

2. BY THE NUMBERS: Aryssa Mahrt is coming alive in the 2024 season. Through six games, Mahrt is leading the team with 6 goals, which is good for second in the B1G. She also leads the conference in shots-on-goal (19) and shots-on-goal per game (3.17).

3. LAST TIME OUT: Wisconsin took down the Milwaukee Panthers 2-1 on the road. 

Milwaukee was able to find a gap in the defense in the 11th minute. Mahrt answered back in the 24th, tying the game. Anya Gulbranden capitalized off a pass from Madison Ishaug in the 79th minute to give UW its second straight win.

The Badgers had the statistical advantage in shots (15-8), shots-on-goal (7-2), and corners (9-7).
