Lema Named National, Conference Player Of The Week

Senior Forward Honored For 5-Goal Week

Senior forward Karlie Lema of the California women’s soccer team took home national and conference honors after a career week on the pitch. Lema was named Top Drawer Soccer Player of the Week and ACC Offensive Player of the Week, the organizations announced Tuesday.

The Morgan Hill native has been a driving force in the Golden Bears’ early season success as the nation’s leading goal (11) and point scorer (24). Lema took her game to a different level this past week scoring five goals and tallying an assist in Cal’s convincing wins over Nevada and San Diego. Of the seven Cal goals this week, she had her hand in all but one, which was a Nevada own goal.

Lema recorded her first career hat trick in Thursday’s 4-1 win over the Wolf Pack scoring the opening goal in the seventh minute, the go-ahead goal and eventual game winner in the 56th minute, and an insurance goal in the 86th. She took seven shots in the match and put six of them on goal.

On Sunday the Cal forward collected her third straight multi-goal performance, earned her third brace of the season and assisted on the game-winning goal as well. Lema took six shots with four landing on frame to give her a potent .385 shot percentage and .769 shot on goal percentage.

This is the first national recognition of Lema’s career and she becomes the first Bear to earn an ACC weekly honor.
