Tennessee Extends Clean Sheet Streak to Five Matches After 2-0 Victory Over Florida Atlantic

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee soccer posted a 2-0 victory over Florida Atlantic Sunday afternoon to log its fifth-consecutive clean sheet of the season.

In addition to firing another shutout, the Lady Vols held the Owls to five total shots with only two coming on frame.

The Big Orange showed up on the offensive side of the ball as well, tallying 16 shots in total and forcing three saves from the Owls’ goalkeeper.

Mac Midgley got the scoreboard working early after a beautiful goal that came outside the 18 in the third minute. Reese Mattern got the initial ball into the box, and Kate Runyon got the extra touch to leave it to Midgley. That marks Midgley’s first goal of the season after impressive offensive showings the past two games.

Another Michigan native, Sammi Woods, got the second goal in the 63rd minute, which came off of a rebound off the right post. Woods now leads the team in goals with two and goal contributions with three.

Jaida Thomas was also helping with the offensive push totaling four shots. Those four shots contributed to 25 percent of the shots on the day for the Lady Vols.

Tennessee’s defense continues to shine bright with another clean sheet, which makes five consecutive. Ally Zazzara only had to make two saves on the day against the Owls.

The win moves Tennessee to 4-1-1 on the season and is still undefeated at home.
