EVANSTON, Ill. – The No. 21 Hokies dropped a 1-0 contest at Northwestern on Sunday afternoon at Northwestern Medicine Field at Martin Stadium.
The Hokies tallied seven shots and three on goal in the match. Lauren Hargrove finished with three saves as well.
How it Happened
It was an even back-and-forth battle through the first half. The Hokies’ best chance of the opening frame came in the 30th minute when Anna Weir tried to capitalize on a poor Wildcat touch, but her shot right down the middle was saved.
With Weir’s shot, Tech tallied three attempts over the span of two minutes but were unable to find the back of the net.
The Wildcats came out of halftime on the attack, but the Hokie defense came through. Lauren Hargrove’s diving save in the 52nd minute and two blocked shots kept Northwestern off the board.

It wasn’t until the 66th minute that the Wildcats took a 1-0 lead off a corner kick. Tech tried to battle back but was unable to find the equalizer in the remaining minutes.
No. 21 Virginia Tech finishes the nonconference slate at 5-2-1.
