Pitt Blanks Mercyhurst, 7-0, on Senior Day

PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh women’s soccer team left Mercyhurst scoreless in a 7-0 shutout, Sunday afternoon on Senior Day.

Pitt honored their seven seniors this afternoon – celebrating Ellie Coffield, Mackenzie Evers, Keera Melenhorst, Ashley Moon, Grace Pettet, Samiah Phiri, and Sarah Schupansky.

The Panthers started collecting points as senior Schupanksy notched in the first goal of the afternoon with 51 seconds on the clock. Coffield earned the assist after sending the ball up the left side of the field to find Schupansky.

Pitt doubled their lead at the 12th minute mark after Schupansky launched the ball down the field to find Magali Gagne at the top of the box who completed the goal.

Just a few minutes later, Pettet secured her first goal as a Panther as she headed in the ball from a corner kick serviced by Schupanksy. This was Schupanksy’s fourth point of the afternoon.

After a clean pass from Samiah Phiri, Gagne crossed the ball to find the back of the net – producing her second goal of the day. 

In the first 45 minutes of play, the Panthers did not let the Lakers produce any shots – holding the 27-0 edge with nine shots on goal. 

The Panthers were ready to tack in more points in the second half. Bailey Wagenknecht crossed the ball from the right side into the box to find Gagne where completed her third goal – securing her hat-trick.

Phiri added her name to the scorers list – making the board 6-0 after dancing around a Mercyhurst defender.
