Gamecocks Continue Unbeaten Streak, Take Down Bruins – University of South Carolina Athletics

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina men’s soccer team (2-0-2) took down Belmont (2-2-1) 2-1 in their second ever meeting Saturday night at Stone Stadium.

Carolina’s four-match unbeaten streak is the longest since starting the 2004 season with a point in four straight matches.

South Carolina found opportunities throughout the first half out-shooting the Belmont 9-to-2 didn’t allow a shot on goal. In the 21st minute, Alejandro Velazquez-Lopez took a shot after a throw-in that bounced just left off the post. The officials went to VAR, but after review, it was confirmed, no goal.

In the 49th minute, Ethan Ballek soared one past the goalie in the left corner off an assist from Andrew Goldsworthy to give the Gamecocks the lead.

Velazquez-Lopez added to the lead in the 60th minute, sending one from the top of the 18-yard box and extend the lead.

The Bruins were able to get one back on a penalty kick in the 62nd minute.

On the night, the Gamecocks out-shot the Bruins 14-to-7 and 6-to-2 in shots on goal. They also held a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.

South Carolina continues its homestand when it hosts USC Upstate Sept. 10 at 7 p.m.
