First Soccer Meeting with LSU ends in Draw

BATON ROUGE, La. – The University of Utah soccer program draws with the LSU Tigers 1-1, in a hard fought battle at a rainy LSU Soccer Stadium on Thursday night.
 
The first matchup between the Utes and the Tigers proved to be a hard physical fight as 32 fouls were tallied and three yellow cards were administered.
 
“It was a valuable result on the road against a quality LSU team in a really difficult condition”, said head coach Hideki Nakada. “I was happy with the way we started the game and scored a great team goal.”
 
Graduate forward Taliana Kaufusi continued the ten-minute streak for the Utes with a goal in the ninth minute. This marks the fourth of five games that Utah finds the net under the ten minute mark, Kaufusi accounting for three of the successes.
 

 
Two firsts occurred for the Utes, redshirt freshman Bella Woods tallied her first assist of the season to help Kaufusi’s outcome and junior midfielder Brooklyn Blaylock marked her first shot of the season in the 65th minute.
 
“We were on our heels for a lot of the second half,” said Nakada, “We have to learn to put away our chances in these tight games, but I am proud of our team for withstanding LSU’s pressure in their tough environment.”
