Gamecocks Draw in Final Minute with Clemson – University of South Carolina Athletics

COLUMBIA, SC—In the 31st matchup between South Carolina (2-0-3) and No. 25 Clemson (4-1-1), the teams tied for the third time in as many games in front of a crowd of 6,050 at Stone Stadium. The crowd marked the third-highest in history.

The first half saw multiple chances from the Gamecocks, with the first shot coming from fifth-year Bri Behm in the 15th minute. The shot was on target, saved by Clemson keeper Nona Reason, but a bounce off her hands allowed fellow fifth-year Corinna Zullo to take her own attempt. That shot was also saved by Reason.

South Carolina would take two more shots and a corner, but couldn’t quite connect. The Tigers gave themselves seven chances, with one on goal but was met by a save from junior keeper Tina Tsaousis. The game remained tied after the first half, 0-0.

Just two minutes into the second half (47′), rookie Katie Shea Collins found fifth-year Cat Barry on a pass right up the middle to set Barry up for her fourth goal of the season after netting one in the bottom right corner to give the Gamecocks a 1-0 lead.

Defense held strong throughout the remainder of the half, denying Clemson’s eight attempts with Tsaousis making a save on one. In the game’s final minute, the Tigers found the equalizer, sneaking into the far right corner of the net to keep themselves from the loss.
