Duke Begins ACC Play with Virginia on Friday


DURHAM, N.C. – Duke men’s soccer (2-1-1, 0-0-0 ACC) travels to Charlottesville, Virginia, to take on the Virginia Cavaliers (2-1-1, 0-0-0 ACC) at Klockner Stadium on Friday evening to open ACC play in 2024. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ACCN. 
 
MATCHUP NOTES

  • Duke and Virginia meet for the 95th time on Friday evening at Klockner Stadium in Charlottesville, Virginia, with the Cavaliers leading the all-time series 42-41-11.
  • The Blue Devils hold a four-match unbeaten streak against the Cavaliers, winning three of the last four meetings.

14 – Goals scored against Averett at Koskinen Stadium on Sunday, tying a program record for most goals scored in a single contest.

FIRST TOUCH

  • Both sides enter play on Friday with a 2-1-1 record, as the Cavaliers forced a draw against Maryland on Monday evening. The Hoos are led by Nick Dang, tallying three goals so far this season, while Joey Batrouni has made two saves and allowed two goals this season.
  • The Cavaliers have allowed just two goals all season, both coming in the first half of their contests, before stifling their opponents in the second half. 

 
HISTORIC DAY AT KOSKINEN STADIUM

  • Duke men’s soccer tied a program record for goals scored on Sunday against Averett at Koskinen Stadium, defeating the Cougars 14-1. 
  • The Blue Devils also tallied 13 assists in the contest, one shy of the program record in a match of 14.
  • Graduate Adam Luckhurst recorded his first career hat trick, scoring all three goals in 22 minutes, while Drew Kerr and Ulfur Bjornsson added two goals apiece.
  • The victory over Averett extended the Blue Devils home unbeaten regular season streak to 23 matches, dating back to the 2021 season.
