MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women’s soccer team will travel down I-94 to face the Milwaukee Panthers on Thursday, Sept. 5 at 7:00 p.m.
Here are five things to know:
1. SCOUTING THE PANTHERS: Wisconsin holds the all-time series lead against the Panthers, 25-5-7, not dropping a contest in seven seasons.
Milwaukee is coached by third-year head coach Kevin Boyd, who holds a 25-11-8 record at UWM.
This season, the Panthers carry a 1-4-0 record and lead in the Horizon League in scoring average (1.60) and penalty kicks (3).
2. BY THE NUMBERS: Aryssa Mahrt is coming alive in the 2024 season. Through five games, Mahrt has claimed two braces against Providence and Loyola Chicago. Mahrt currently leads the team in scoring and is fourth in the Big Ten for goals (5) and points (11). Mahrt also leads the conference in shots-on-goal (14) and shots-on-goal per game (2.80).
UW sits in second for corner kicks with 33 through four games good for 8.25 per game.
3. LAST TIME OUT: Wisconsin took a 1-1 draw against Western Michigan. The first half remained scoreless, with Wisconsin being persistent on the attack. WMU was playing with a gritty style edging the Badgers on fouls, 13-5 in the first 45. The Broncos were able to find a gap in the defense in the 64th minute. Mahrt capitalized in the 69th minute off a pass from Ashley Martinez. The Badgers had the upper hand on shots (12-11) and shots-on-goal (7-5).
