Exclusive: Fabrizio Romano responds to claims Barcelona are pursuing free transfers

Barcelona have been linked with some possible moves for free agents now that the transfer window has closed.

However, Fabrizio Romano insists it’s all quiet at Barca at the moment and there’s nothing happening to take advantage of the fact that you can still sign free agents outside of the official transfer window.

Barcelona signed Dani Olmo and Pau Victor this summer, but it was an otherwise quiet summer for them as some big names also left the club, with Ilkay Gundogan leaving to return to Manchester City, while last season’s loanees Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix didn’t stay.

Barcelona have started well under new manager Hansi Flick, however, so they might be happy with their current squad, as it seems they’re not currently working to snap up anyone else now that the season has got started.

Barcelona transfer update from Fabrizio Romano

“Finally, it’s been reported that Barcelona are waiting on their deal with Nike to be signed and are then looking at some free transfer signings outside of the window,” Romano said.

“However, I’m not aware of talks with any free agents in this moment. I don’t know where these reports have come from but it’s completely quiet at Barca at the moment. I can guarantee that no negotiations are taking place now.”

Barcelona beat Valladolid 7-0 yesterday to continue their strong start to the season, but it remains to be seen if they’re quite good enough to beat Real Madrid to the title after a difficult few years.
