Duke Rolls to 14-1 Victory Over Averett on Sunday

DURHAM, N.C. – Duke men’s soccer (2-1-1) defeated Averett (1-0-0), 14-1, on Sunday afternoon in Koskinen Stadium. Nine goals scores found their names on the stats sheet, while Adam Luckhurst led the way with three goals in the win.
 
Graduate Wessel Speel earned the win, playing the first half before being relieved by Nathan Gaviser and Ryan Gallagher. Sophomore Ulfur Bjornsson pushed his season total to six goals, slotting home two more in the win on Sunday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • In the seventh minute of play, junior Drew Kerr opened the scoring, receiving a pass from Trevor Burns and Colton Pleasants slotting a left-footed shot into the bottom left corner of the net, 1-0.
  • The match was suspended for 53 minutes due to severe weather in the area.
  • After the restart, Ulfur Bjornsson tallied his fifth goal of the season, pressuring the keeper and deflecting the attempted pass into the back of the net, 2-0. 
  • Minutes later, Kerr doubled his tally, firing a deflected shot and following his rebound to increase the Blue Devils’ lead, to 3-0.
  • Bjornsson doubled his tally in the 26th minute, following a spilled ball by the Averett keeper, 4-0.
  • Adam Luckhurst recorded his first goal of the season in the 41st minute, finishing a cross from Niclas Wittur and Felix Barajas, 5-0.
  • In the 44th minute, Luckhurst doubled his goal total for the season, finishing a ball from Barajas and
