Liverpool have completed the signing of Federico Chiesa on a four-year deal from Juventus for a fee of £10million.

The Italian winger was one of the poster boys of Italian football when he joined Juventus from Fiorentina – and he starred as the nation won the European Championship in 2021 – but a serious injury halted his progress.

Liverpool believe they have pulled off a bargain by signing a proven player and Chiesa adds further depth to the forward line.

He can play across the front three and will fight for minutes against Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo.

The Reds also think new head coach Arne Slot and his backroom staff – including head of performance Ruben Peeters – are specialists in injury prevention and they can get over Chiesa’s fitness worries since his ACL blow in January 2022.

Chiesa told Liverpoolfc.com: ‘I’m so happy to be a Liverpool player. When [sporting director] Richard Hughes called me and he said, “Do you want to join Liverpool?” – and the coach called me – I said yes immediately because I know the history of this club, I know what it represents to the fans.

“So, I’m so happy and I can’t wait to get started.”
