Soccer Welcomes Grambling State on Thursday


TEMPE – Sun Devil Soccer is back in action on Thursday when they return to Sun Devil Soccer Stadium to host Grambling State. The first of a three-game homestand to close the non-conference season begins at 7 p.m.

ASU will enter the game with a 2-0-2 record overall and 1-0-2 at home. The team ranks 21st in the country, scoring 3.00 goals per game and attempting 17.25 shots per contest. The opposition averages 0.75 goals per game while taking 9.00 shots per outing.

Enasia Colon leads ASU with four goals and 17 shots. Cameron Valladares had added three goals and a team-best three assists. The duo sit tied for third in the Big 12 with 12 points. Pauline Nelles has posted a pair of shutouts and holds a 0.75 GAA and a .800 save percentage.

The Sun Devils head into Thursday following a 5-2 win at LSU last Sunday. ASU fell behind twice in the first half but scored the game’s final four goals to earn the win. Colon and Valladres finished the game with two goals apiece.

SERIES NOTES: ASU defeated Grambling 5-0 in Tempe during the 2022 season, the only previous meeting in the series.

ABOUT GRAMBLING: The Lady Tigers make the trip to Tempe with a 2-1-2 overall record and have played all five games on the road. Thursday’s game is also the team’s first of the season outside Louisiana.

Jayla Gage has tallied a team-leading four goals, while Sophia Lezizidis and Charlotte Cuthbertson have each scored twice. Madison Covey-Taylor leads the keepers with 12 saves and two wins.

ATTACKING AUGUST: The Sun Devils have developed a run of success during August the past few years. Over the previous six seasons, ASU is 13-0-6 in August. They have outscored the opposition 58-13 in those games while scoring four-plus goals in a game nine times.

HOME COOKING: With a win and two draws at home this season, ASU has extended its unbeaten streak to 19 (12-0-3) consecutive non-conference home games dating back to the 2019 season. They have also improved to 17-3-6 when playing at home during August.
