Leeds United have opened talks with Fortuna Dusseldorf for midfielder Ao Tanaka.

The Japan international is understood to have a release clause of £2.65million and Leeds have made contact over the last 24 hours.

The 25-year old could fly to England this evening if terms can be finalised swiftly.

Tanaka has 37 caps for his country and is a close friend of Brighton winger Kaoru Mitoma. He was the subject of interest from Leeds last summer also.
