PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State senior goalkeeper Nadia Cooper was named the West Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the Conference announced Tuesday afternoon. Cooper posted a pair of wins between the posts with a cleansheet Thursday night against Montana and a weekend sweep with a Sunday win over Idaho. Cooper’s recognition marks her third conference weekly honor, previously being named the Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Week twice during her historic freshman season.
In Thursday night’s 3-0 win against Montana, Cooper earned her 15th career shutout and first of the season in front of 2,626 fans at Lower Soccer Field, the fourth-largest crowd in school history. Cooper made five saves in the match to blank the Griz and moved to sixth in Cougar goalkeeping history with 168 career saves.
Returning to Lower Soccer Field Sunday evening, Cooper directed the WSU backline to a perfect first half, holding the Idaho Vandals without a shot attempt. The Vandals had just one shot in the match as the Cougars and Cooper picked up their second win of the year. With a full 90-minute shift in goal, the Texan senior surpassed 5,000 career minutes played and earned her 28th career win, just one shy of fourth in Cougar program history.
Washington State returns to the pitch Sunday afternoon against nationally-ranked Stanford, Sept. 1 at Stanford, Calif. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. PT with coverage on ACCNX.
