Women’s Soccer Falls at UMass, 1-0

Lehigh

AMHERST, Mass. – Rutgers women’s soccer (1-1-1) dropped a 1-0 final score at UMass (1-2-0) on Sunday afternoon at Rudd Field after the Minutewomen scored late in the 81st minute and held on for the shutout.

The Scarlet Knights managed four shots on target, but could not find the back of the net on Sunday. Freshman midfielder Shaela Bradley forced a diving save on her attempt in the 86th minute attempting to equalize, sealing the shutout for UMass goalkeeper Bella Mendoza.

Bradley took three of the four Rutgers shots on target, with sophomore Ashley Baran taking the other.

Both sides played with 10 women for the final 35 minutes after red cards were issues to each side for a scrap in the 55th minute.

UMass improves to 11-3-1 in the all-time series dating back to 1985 when the schools were part of the Atlantic 10 Conference through 1994. The Minutewomen picked up their first win in the series since 1994 with Rutgers winning the last two in 2015 and 2023.

Rutgers returns home to host Lehigh on Wed., Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. at Yurcak Field.
