Napoli bid €25m for Scott McTominay

Real Madrid threatening to make a surprise move for Manchester United star

It’s been quite the transfer window already this summer for Man United, with the Red Devils landing some quality players.

Erik ten Hag will surely be delighted by the club’s ambition and though Leny Yoro remains injured at present, the Dutchman can still enjoy the talents of Joshua Zirkzee, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.

In the meantime, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his board will need to be working on some outgoings to balance the books, and one name that’s come up consistently over the past 12 months as a player that could be surplus to requirements at Old Trafford is midfield dynamo, Scott McTominay.

Napoli want Scott McTominay

The Scottish international always gives his best when called upon, and has been an unsung match winner on more than one occasion for ten Hag.

And yet, the manager must clearly feel he has better options in midfield given that it seems McTominay has long been available for sale if any interested clubs are willing to match United’s valuation.

That still appears to be the problem this summer.

According to Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth, writing on X (formerly Twitter), Napoli have made a bid of around €25m for the player, but that still falls short of the €30m or so that United are believed to want in order to bring them to the negotiating table.

The Serie A giants are understood to be looking at either a permanent deal or a loan with an obligation to buy at this point.

With a week to go until the transfer window closes, there’s plenty of time to get a deal over the line if that’s what all parties want.

It may require some concessions on all sides, but if there’s a will, there’s a way.
