Dawgs To Wrap Up Homestand With Sunday Matinee Against UC Irvine


SEATTLE – Looking to extend their unbeaten streak to 10, Washington concludes a three-match homestand Sunday afternoon, hosting UC Irvine for a 1 p.m. PT kickoff at Husky Soccer Stadium.
 
It will be UW’s Camper Reunion Match, with the Huskies welcoming their campers from this past summer back to Montlake.
 
Sunday’s affair will be available for streaming on B1G+, with live stats available at HuskyStats.com.
 
SCOUTING UC IRVINE
UC Irvine is in its 17th season under the direction of head coach Scott Juniper, the winningest coach in program history. Under Juniper, the Anteaters have achieved 12 winning seasons, four Big West regular season championships, three Big West Tournament titles and three trips to the NCAA Tournament.
 
UC irvine, picked to finish 4th in the Big West, sits 1-1-1 through the first three matches of the season, most recently drawing 1-1 with San Diego at home this past Thursday.
 
The Anteaters placed two players on the Preseason All-Big West Team in senior forward Desiree Mendoza and senior defender Kiera Smeenge.
 
Senior forward Kaitlyn Paculba is the lone Anteater with multiple goals in 2024, bagging a brace in her UC Irvine debut at Saint Mary’s. Senior forward Laila El Behery and freshman  forward Clara Samson have scored UCI’s other two goals on the season.
 
Graduate student defender Lawson Willis and junior midfielder Mia Colombini have dished out UC Irvine’s two assists so far on the young season.
 
Graduate student Notre Dame transfer Ashley Naylor has started the season’s first three matches, allowing four goals while making eight saves. Naylor own’s a 1.44 GAA and a .667 save percentage in 2024.
 
SERIES HISTORY
Washington has faced off against UC Irvine eight times dating back to 1991, with the Huskies winning all eight matchups. The Huskies have beaten the Anteaters three times in Seattle. Sunday’s affair will be the first meeting between the two sides since 2018.
 
LAST MEETING (9/7/18)
PORTLAND, Ore. – The Washington Huskies continued their winning ways in Portland, taking a 2-1 victory over the UC Irvine Anteaters.
 
Washington put 11 shots on goal in the game. UW outshot UCI 17-12 overall.
 
Ameera Hussen also picked up an assist in the match, picking off a pass and feeding Pascale Dumesnil for her goal.
