Menti’s Header Leads Comeback, Huskies Earn Derby Draw vs. Seattle U

SEATTLE – Washington hit the halftime break down a goal in Thursday night’s derby matchup with Seattle U but showed its resolve, fighting back to earn a 1-1 draw at Husky Soccer Stadium.
 
With the draw, the Huskies retain control of the WAC/101 Club Cup for the fourth straight year, every year the two sides have battled for the trophy.
 
After a pair of decent looks in the early going, the Huskies used some nifty link up play to setup a great chance at the opener in the 18th minute. Taking in a feed from Kolo Suliafu, Alex Buck back heeled directly into Kelsey Branson’s path. However, the junior’s strike sailed high.
 
20 minutes later, the Redhawks took the lead off an indirect free kick as Caroline Penner headed home Jourdyn Curran’s in-swinging service.
 
Needing an equalizer, the Huskies came out of the halftime break firing. Buck nearly broke through for the Dawgs in the 64th minute, seeing her volleyed strike clatter off the crossbar and bounce straight down near the goal line.
 
Play was stopped for review, but with no conclusive evidence available, the no goal ruling was upheld.
