Cats Chop Lumberjacks, 5-0 – University of Arizona Athletics

North Carolina

TUCSON – Arizona Soccer defeated Northern Arizona, 5-0, on Thursday for its third win of the season and its third shutout in as many matches. Five different Wildcats scored and a pair of Arizona freshmen registered their career points with assists on the goals.

The Cats (3-0-0, 0-0-0 Big 12) struck first in the 11th minute off a set piece. Nicole Dallin served a corner kick into the box where Megan Chelf was waiting to send the header into the net. The goal was the first of the season for Chelf and the third of her career. The assist was the third of Dallin’s career.

In the 34th minute, Trinity Dorsey rocketed a shot off the pass from Jessica Bedolla. NAU’s goalkeeper was there and nearly made the save but was unable to keep the ball out of the net, earning Dorsey the first goal of her career.

Sami Baytosh got on the board in the 40th minute, heading the cross from Narissa Fults over the head of the Lumberjacks keeper.

The assists by Bedolla and Fults were the first of their careers.

Bedolla scored a goal of her own in the 79th minute, sending it past the NAU goalkeeper off her right foot after receiving a pass from Marley Chappel.

A fifth Wildcat got on the stat sheet in the 81st minute when Gianna Christiansen launched a shot into goal off a cross-pitch pass from Rose Calkins, the freshman’s second career assist.

Arizona returns to action Sunday, August. 22 at 9:00 a.m. MST at No. 5 North Carolina. The match will be broadcast on ACC Network.
