EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State men’s soccer junior midfielder Jonathan Stout was named to the Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) Hermann Trophy Watch List on Thursday. The MAC Hermann Trophy  is the most prestigious individual award in college soccer and is presented annually to the most outstanding male and female players of the year.

Stout is the first Spartan to make the list since Giuseppe Barone and Patrick Nielsen were named to the Hermann Watch List in 2019. Prior to that, Ryan Sierakowski was honored in 2017. Goalkeeper Avery Steinlage was named to the watch list in 2010. In 2014, midfielder Jay Chapman was named a semifinalist for the Hermann Trophy, becoming the first Spartan in school history to achieve the feat.

A native of Wyoming, Michigan, Stout was second on the team in scoring last season with 10 points on five goals. The midfielder was named to the Big Ten preseason Players to Watch list as well. Stout was also named first-team All-Big Ten as a sophomore. He also captured first-team All-North Region honors.

Stout joined Indiana’s Samuel Sarver as the only other member of the Big Ten to make the Hermann Watch List. A total of 16 players were named to the watch list.

The watch 2024 list was compiled by members of the Division I Men’s All-America Council from a list of returning 2023 All-Americans as well as First Team All-Region players. A total of 15 players will be named 2024 Hermann Trophy semifinalists on December 11 at the conclusion of NCAA Division I All-American voting. From that list, head coaches will cast votes, and three players will be named finalists. The 2024 recipient will be announced January 3, 2025, in a ceremony at the Missouri Athletic Club in downtown St. Louis, Mo.

The Spartans open the season on Friday, Aug. 22 at No. 25 SIUE at 9 p.m. ET.
