JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Florida soccer opened road action Thursday with a 0-0 tie at North Florida in front of a damp Hodges Stadium crowd of 2,792.
The first shot of match didn’t come until 21 minutes in when Florida’s Madison Jones and Delaney Tellex took a quick succession of shots.
Florida had a couple of good opportunities late in the match. Sophomore Lena Bailey looked to put the ball in off a deep cross in the final four minutes and her collision with the goal keeper sent Bailey’s headband flying. In the next minute, Bailey looked to score off Florida goalkeeper Jayden Emmanuel’s long punt that landed deep in the Osprey’s box, but the goal was called off due to a foul.
The scoreless tie was the second consecutive in the all-time series, as the two teams also played to a 0-0 tie on Sept. 19, 2021 at Dizney Stadium.
What Coach Bohon Said:
On this evening’s result:
“This is a great wake-up call for our team. We are so much better than this. They’ve been great all preseason and spring so it’s a super big disappointment for us, not even just the result but how we performed.
“Even if we had scored late, I still would have been unhappy because at the end of the day, we need to keep progressing and moving forward. We didn’t progress at all, we went backward. They need to figure out what kind of season they want to have because this wasn’t good enough.” – Florida Head Coach Samantha Bohon
