Pitt Primed for Season-Opening Showdown With No. 16 Georgetown


PITTSBURGH – Seeking the program’s sixth-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, the Pitt men’s soccer team will face its first test of the 2024 campaign when the Panthers host defending BIG EAST regular season champion and No. 16-ranked Georgetown Thursday evening at Ambrose Urbanic Field.

Kickoff is slated for 8 p.m. ET, and the match can be streamed via ACC Network Extra.

Fan/Ticket Information

Single-match tickets for the 2024 campaign can be purchased in advance HERE for $10 each. Tickets on match day will be sold at the Petersen Sports Complex ticket office for $12 each. Discounted group sale tickets are available for groups of 15+.

Season tickets to see all nine home matches at Ambrose Urbanic Field are also still available for $50 each. Purchase season tickets HERE.

The first 250 fans in attendance will receive a custom Pitt soccer flag on Thursday.

Scouting the Hoyas

  • Georgetown was picked first in the BIG EAST Conference East Division Preseason Coaches Poll as the Hoyas were awarded 66 points and 11-of-12 first place votes.

    • Additionally, three Hoyas earned preseason honors.  

  • Senior Maximus Jennings was named the Preseason BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year, while graduate student Marlon Tabora and junior Zach Zengue joined Jennings on the Preseason All-BIG EAST squad.
  • A season ago, Georgetown earned a first-round bye in the NCAA Tournament, before falling to James Madison in the round of 32.

    • Overall, the Hoyas compiled a 13-3-3, 6-1-1 BIG EAST record.

Series History

  • Thursday will mark the 31st all-time meeting between the Panthers and the Hoyas, as Georgetown owns a 23-7 ledger.

    • Of note, the two sides have split the last two meetings. 

  • Georgetown earned a 4-1 victory over then-No. 8 Pitt last season in Washington, D.C.

    • The Panthers collected a 3-0 home win in the first meeting between the two teams in 1985.
