MATCH CENTRAL: Tennessee at ETSU


Tennessee soccer is set to head to Johnson City, Tennessee, for a 6 p.m. ET match Thursday night against ETSU. 

UT (1-1-0) is coming off a 2-0 win over Chattanooga and looks to build upon that momentum for another in-state matchup against the Buccaneers.

Sammi Woods led the way for Tennessee against UTC and used a left-footed beauty assisted off Sarah Greiner to find the back of the net in the 90th minute.

In addition to her goal, Woods shined in her Rocky Top debut and paced the squad with six shots total with three of them coming on frame while also leading the team with 77 minutes of game action.  

East Tennessee (1-1-0) is coming off a 1-0 win over Eastern Kentucky. Grace Eatz scored the game-winner for the Bucs.

SCOUTING ETSU: East Tennessee opened its season on the road at UAB and dropped the match against 0-1 before bouncing back with a 1-0 victory against EKU. ETSU goalkeeper Ashton Blair registered her 12th career shutout during the Bucs’ most recent match.

MATCHUP HISTORY: Tennessee is 8-0 all-time in matchups against ETSU. In its meetings, UT has outscored 37-4. The last matchup between the two squads came on August 24, 2023 when the Lady Vols won 3-1. This marks Tennessee’s fifth trip to Johnson City and the first since Sept. 6, 2018.

UP NEXT: The Big Orange return home for a Sunday afternoon match against Lipscomb at 1 p.m. ET.

CHASIN’ RECORDS: Jaida Thomas currently ranks second on Tennessee’s all-time goals list with 39 and sits just four back of tying Kylee Rossi’s program-best 43.

SAMMI IN THE ORANGE: In addition to shining in her Regal Stadium debut, Woods enters game three with a team-leading seven shots with four coming on frame.
