Bella Woods Named Big 12 Freshmen Player of the Week

IRVING, Texas – After a game-winning goal, Bella Woods was named the Big 12 Freshman Player of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday.

In the final minutes of a tied game against Gonzaga, the Bulldogs were penalized for a handball, giving Woods the opportunity for a free kick. In the ninetieth minute, Woods capitalized on the kick and shot around the defenders for the game-winning goal and Utah’s first win of the season.

The Draper, Utah freshman is the first Utah student-athlete to receive a Big 12 weekly award and the first soccer student-athlete to receive a conference award since Katie O’Kane was named offensive player of the week in October of 2023.

Woods and her teammates are preparing to match up with Grand Canyon University on Thursday night at 7 p.m. at Ute Field.
