Manchester United have been offered Manuel Ugarte on loan from PSG with an obligation to buy but the asking price is still too high.

United value the Uruguay international around £42million while PSG want £51m.

Ugarte was not involved in PSG’s Ligue 1 season opener against Le Havre last Friday amid the latest transfer speculation.

As it stands, PSG remain happy to proceed with a sale of Ugarte, but they are unwilling to lower from their £51m valuation, which is how much they paid Sporting to sign him in July last year.

Ugarte featured in 37 games for the French heavyweights last season as the club won Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France.

He had earlier represented Sporting 85 times over a two-year spell, having started his Portuguese club career playing for Famalicao.

Ugarte has also been capped 22 times at senior international level.

The news comes as Napoli want Scott McTominay on an initial loan deal but United will only countenance a sale.

Ugarte would be a direct reinforcement if the Scot was to leave this summer.

Fulham had a £20m bid rejected earlier this month.

McTominay has just one year remaining on his contract with United, although the club has the option to extend it for a further 12 months.

The 27-year-old is a product of United’s academy and has made over 250 appearances for the club since making his debut in April 2017.

The Cottagers revived their interest since that bid but are set to sign Burnley’s Sander Berge for £25m
