FSU’s Huff, Virginia’s Galvin Named ACC Women’s Soccer Players of Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Florida State senior midfielder/forward Taylor Huff was selected the Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Week and Virginia junior defender Tatum Galvin was chosen the Defensive Player of the Week for matches played during the opening week of the regular season.

Huff opened the 2024 campaign with three goals and four assists, as she led top-ranked Florida State to a 2-0 record. In Thursday’s season opener at USF, the Mansfield, Ohio, native tied a career high with three assists in the Seminoles’ 5-0 win over the Bulls. On Sunday, the senior recorded her first career hat trick with three goals and an assist to pace FSU to a 10-0 rout over North Florida. Huff’s three goals and four assists through the first weekend of the regular season lead the ACC.

Galvin anchored a backline that recorded a pair of clean sheets and led Virginia to a perfect 2-0 start with wins over Towson and Northwestern last week. Despite Towson averaging over 15.5 shots per match a season ago, Galvin and the Cavaliers’ backline held the Tigers to just three shots for the match with just one attempt going on goal. The scoreless streak continued for the Cavaliers on Sunday, when UVA held Northwestern to just a pair of shots on goal in a 2-0 win.

ACC Women’s Soccer continues Thursday, August 22, with 14 teams in action, headlined by ACC Network’s first live broadcast of the 2024-25 season, as Florida State hosts Rice at 7 p.m. ET. Also in action on Thursday is a top-25 matchup when Georgia heads to North Carolina for a 5 p.m. ET kickoff.
