Chelsea target in London for medical

Exclusive: Aston Villa plan €60m bid for attacker transfer, €16m Tottenham misfit also being considered

Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the Joao Felix to Chelsea transfer saga as the Portuguese forward is set to travel to London today for his medical with the Blues.

It looks like Felix’s move from Atletico Madrid to Chelsea is now very close to completion, though as we saw with the recent Samu Omorodion and Conor Gallagher saga, a deal is never truly done until the clubs officially announce it.

Still, Romano says Felix is excited to be returning for another spell at Chelsea after his previous loan stint at Stamford Bridge, and it will be interesting to see how he gets on and how he is received by the club’s fans.

Felix didn’t exactly set the world alight the last time he was a Chelsea player, while he also had an underwhelming loan spell at Barcelona last season.

Felix transfer: Latest details on Chelsea return

Still, it seems Chelsea have decided to give Felix another chance and he’s now close to joining on a long-term contract, according to Romano in the X post below…

Such a long-term deal for an under-performing player looks slightly risky from Chelsea, but that just seems to be how they operate these days, with plenty of recent signings being handed very long contracts.

It will be interesting to see if Enzo Maresca can get more out of Felix than other managers have in recent times, but overall this doesn’t come across as the most well-thought-out piece of work in the transfer market.

Joao Felix is close to returning to Chelsea

Chelsea’s current owners have tended to go for younger players on an upward trajectory, whereas Felix is arguably a failed wonderkid, having never really lived up to the potential we saw from him during his Benfica days a few years ago.

Still, CFC need more options up front after the Omorodion deal fell through, and there’s no doubt that Felix has plenty of quality on his day, while he’ll be arriving in west London with a point to prove.
