Beardsley Named Solomon Eye Physicians & Surgeons Terp of Week

COLLEGE PARK, MD — Each week during the 2024-25 season a Maryland student-athlete, who has shown excellence on and off the playing field, will be selected as the Solomon Eye Physicians & Surgeons Terp of the Week.

This week’s Terp of the Week is Liz Beardsley. This is the second time in her career that Beardsley has received Terp of the Week honors.

Beardsley began her 2024 season with bang, making seven saves in goal to help lead the Terrapins to a 2-0 season-opening win over Lehigh. The shutout was the seventh in her time at Maryland, and extended the Terps’ unbeaten run in season-opening games to eight. The biggest save from Beardsley came in the 87th minute, on a cross into the box that fell to the feet of a Lehigh player. Beardsley stopped the stop from point blank range to preserve the shutout. In Maryland’s 2-2 draw at home against Stony Brook, Beardsley had another fine performance as the senior stopped five shots in the game. In the 53rd minute, Beardsley made a diving stop to keep Stony Brook from taking the lead. Six minutes later, Beardsley made a leaping shot to deny Stony Brook on a free kick.

Beardsley is in her second year with the Terps as their starting goalkeeper. In 2023, Beardsley started in all 18 games, while also leading the team in minutes played with 1620. Beardsley stopped 67 shots last season, and had six games with five or more saves. Beardsley put up six shutouts in 2023, the most for a Maryland keeper in a single-season since 2014. Beardsley posted career-highs in saves in two matches last season, stopping eight shots against Penn State on Sept. 15 and Ohio State Sept. 24.

Maryland is back in action on Thursday, Aug. 22, as it hosts American. Kickoff for the game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
