PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers women’s soccer (1-0-1) earned a 1-1 draw with Wake Forest (1-0-1) on Sunday afternoon at Yurcak Field to kick off its 2024 home campaign.
Redshirt-freshman forward Reilly McGlinn scored the Scarlet Knights’ goal on her first collegiate shot attempt. Rutgers took the 1-0 lead with 90 seconds left in the first half when junior midfielder Allie Post threaded a ball to McGlinn, who took the breakaway chance and buried her first collegiate goal inside the far post from the left side of Wake Forest’s 18-yard box.
“Coach O’Neill says we’re not subs, we are difference makers,” said McGlinn, who scored in the 44th minute after coming on the pitch in the 41st. “It was exciting to have my whole team behind me. It was a whole team effort to make that goal happen, so it was my job to keep that tempo going.”

The Demon Deacons leveled the score at 1-1 in the 67th minute of the second half when a long cross was headed forward and cleaned up on the goal line. The road team held the result by keeping Rutgers shotless after the goal over the final 33 minutes.
Overall, Wake Forest led 13-6 in shots, while shots on target were tied 3-3. The Deacs earned eight corner kicks to Rutgers’ two, while holding 61 percent of the possession by game’s end.
Gia Girman, Riley Tiernan, and McGlinn took Rutgers’ shots on target, while Olivia Bodmer made two saves in net.
