Soccer to Host Memphis on Sunday


COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri soccer is back at Walton Stadium to face Memphis at 7 p.m. on Sunday. The contest will be streamed live on SECN+.

The Tigers defeated in-state foe Missouri State, 2-0, on Thursday to open the 29th season of the program. With the win, the Tigers improved to 18-8-3 in season openers and 23-4-1 in home openers in program history.

Milena Fischer netted the first goal of the season in the ninth minute and Keegan Good added a goal in the 55 minute to lead Missouri to victory.

Mizzou recorded 15 shots in the contest, including six on target, in the team’s fourth win against the Lady Bears series history.

2023 All-SEC First Team honoree Kylee Simmons tallied an assist on the game’s opening goal. Simmons headlines Missouri’s roster as she led the conference with 11 goals a season ago and ranked second in the SEC with 24 total points.

The forward was recently tabbed No. 34 on Top Drawer Soccer’s national player rankings.

Missouri debuted its freshman class on Thursday as Landis Canada, Emily Derucki and Mia Devrouax all made appearances. Canda cracked the starting lineup and played 78 minutes.

Tigers’ goalkeeper Bella Hollenbach made four saves in the shutout. The redshirt junior has made 14 consecutive starts dating back to the team’s 2-2 tie against Kansas on Sept. 3, 2023.

In exhibition play earlier this month, Missouri earned a pair of 2-0 wins over Lindenwood and Wisconsin.

Memphis opened its season with a 5-1 win over Alabama A&M on Thursday. The Tigers went 20-2 in 2023 including a perfect 9-0 mark against conference opponents.

Memphis defeated SMU in the AAC Championship game and advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament before falling to Pittsburgh

The visitors are coached by Brooks Monaghan who is in his 25th year on the sidelines with a 300-149-37 overall record.

Sophomore forward Anna Hauer headlines the Memphis roster as she scored eight goals and totaled three assists a season ago.

Admission to all home contests during the 2024 season is free.
