Journalist delivers update on Man United pursuit of star who earns €18-19m-a-season

Napoli star striker Victor Osimhen is anticipating a bid from Arsenal this summer; the Nigerian forward is also linked with Chelsea

Barcelona midfielder Frenkie De Jong has been linked with a move away from the club and Manchester United have been tipped as a potential destination.

However, journalist Florian Plettenberg has now confirmed that Manchester United will not move for the Dutch international midfielder and they have held no talks with the Spanish club regarding a move for the 27-year-old.

Manchester United are currently working along with Jorge Mendes to secure the signature of Manuel Ugarte.

De Jong has been linked with a move to Manchester United for a while now. There is no doubt that Manchester United could use a quality central midfielder like him, but it seems that any links with the Dutch international are nothing more than just rumours.

It will be interesting to see if Manchester United can improve their squad adequately before the end of the window. They need to bring in a quality central midfielder who can control the tempo of the game and add creativity and drive to the side.

Frenkie de Jong could leave Barcelona in the summer?

Frenkie de Jong would have been a quality addition

De Jong is certainly the ideal fit in theory, but signing him is unlikely to be simple. He is likely to cost a premium. The midfielder has a long-term contract with Barcelona and his wages could be a major problem as well. According to a report from Spanish publication Marca, the midfielder earns around €18-19 million per season.

Manchester United cannot afford to shatter their wage structure for the midfielder. Ugarte would be a much more reasonable option for the Red Devils. They need a quality defensive midfielder and the 23-year-old seems like the ideal fit. The South American will be determined to get his career back on track and a move away from PSG would be ideal.
