Good Transfer Window For Southampton FC

Good Transfer Window For Southampton FC

Well, yesterday was a productive day for Southampton FC. Archer and Ugochukwu in, Mara on his way out. If ABK goes, that’s £22m in the door, £15m spent and I think Martin will consider the midfield sorted now.

Maybe one more needed, but he won’t view it as a priority. O’Riley isn’t happening.

Bree, Sulemana, Alcaraz, Charles, Edozie may be others to go, but I can’t see many more except for silly offers (or someone paying up for Paul), and I think that leaves one signing left to bring in given the funds we’ve generated and what we’ve spent so far.

And I think we all want this to be a goalkeeper. Whatever names have been banded about, we haven’t really been linked with anyone good, which is a worry, but maybe McCarthy having a mare tomorrow will push us to sign one.

Otherwise, it isn’t great, it’s 14th at best, but we’ve got a decent squad now. Lower PL level, but also good to see those we’ve signed would and could be very good in the Championship next season if the worst were to happen.

GK: McCarthy/*signing*
CB: Bednarek, THB, Stephens, Wood, Edwards
FB: Sugarawa, KWP, Taylor, Manning
CM: Downes, Ugochukwu, Lallana, Smallbone, Aribo, Alcaraz
FWD: Armstrong, Archer, Stewart, Onuachu, Sulemana, Brereton

There’s depth in almost every position there, I don’t think defence will see any more movements unless someone offers £15-20m for KWP, midfield seems set unless Charlie goes, and up front we have small quick forwards, tall hold-up men and a few tricky wingers.

I think we’ve had a very good window personally, a goalie would make it great, and just one more signing somewhere, a proper first team stalwart marquee signing, would make it almost perfect.

But given the players we haven’t lost, the money we’ve got for those we’ve sold, and the attitude in the team, utilising Alcaraz and Onuachu could be like two new signings, and I hope that Nottingham Forest, Leicester and Ipswich are currently in worse positions than we are so fingers crossed.

Tomorrow is just an exercise in seeing where we’re at, not expecting points, but Forest at home next week is where we will really see what we’re made of this season.

Personally still on a high from winning the play-off final, but up the saints up north tomorrow!
