Manuel Ugarte will not play for Paris Saint-Germain in Friday night’s Ligue 1 opener against Le Havre.
The 23-year-old Uruguay international is top of Manchester United‘s current list of transfer targets, with manager Erik ten Hag keen to bolster his midfield after signing three defenders and a new striker already this summer.
As reported by Mail Sport earlier this week, PSG are open to the idea of selling Ugarte, but the French club’s asking price of £52million – the same amount they paid Sporting Lisbon when they signed him in July last year – is more than United want to pay.
Fabrizio Romano has since provided a further update. After confirming that Ugarte had been left out of PSG’s squad for Friday’s game, Romano reported that the player had made it clear that he wanted to move to Old Trafford as soon as possible.
However, the move is seemingly reliant on PSG lowering their demands.

Ugarte played 37 games for PSG in all competitions last season following his arrival from Sporting. Chelsea had tried to sign him before PSG got the deal done.
He had earlier represented Sporting 85 times over a two-year spell, having started his Portuguese club career playing for Famalicao.
Ugarte has also been capped 22 times at senior international level.
He played alongside current United forward Facundo Pellistri in all six of Uruguay’s games at this summer’s Copa America tournament in the USA.
Uruguay finished third after beating Canada on penalties, following a 1-0 semi-final defeat by Colombia.
