Manuel Ugarte left out of PSG squad for Ligue 1 opener as Man Utd talks continue

Manuel Ugarte

Manuel Ugarte has been left out of the Paris Saint-Germain squad for Friday’s Ligue 1 opener against Le Havre.

The midfielder is a key target for Manchester United and is believed to have communicated his desire to move to Old Trafford, but despite being made available for transfer, talks between the two clubs have yet to reach a positive outcome as PSG stand firm on their €60m (£51.1m) asking price.

United have been in talks with Ugarte’s agent, Jorge Mendes, who is trying to unlock the deal heading into the final two weeks of the summer transfer window.

With all that going on in the background, PSG manager Luis Enrique has made the decision not to include Ugarte in his squad for Friday’s game.

Ugarte is not injured – he was not mentioned on the injury report – but instead remains away from the group while his future is resolved.

Enrique has been reluctant to give anything away publicly but did admit in the build-up to the game that there could still be some departures before the window closes.

“It is a numerically sufficient squad,” Enrique said. “It is still possible that some players arrive, that some leave. It will be a challenge. But on the number of players, I am satisfied, happy.

“The transfer window is very difficult for all teams, but especially for us because we already have a great team. Last year, the number of recruits was high. But we didn’t recruit players for six months or a year. We tried to make sure that there was a project, an idea to work on.

“I am very happy with the vast majority of the players. We have complete confidence, we will continue to develop our project.”
